According to Vital Wellness, the benefits of having a hobby include:
Relieves stress It's an opportunity to meet new people Stimulates the mind Boosts self-esteem You have fun! Hobbies are not just for sad, lonely or lame people. Did you know that Amanda Seyfried and Ashton Kutcher knit, Angelina Jolie collects daggers, Leonardo DiCaprio collected Star Wars figurines (which he sold for charity a few years ago) and apparently, Taylor Swift likes making snow globes. The world would be a much nicer place if people said the following things more often: Please Thankyou Hello I love you Excuse me I'm sorry Check out Kid President's list of 20 things you should say more often. I'm a real sweet tooth. While I'm not planning on going sugar-freeany time soon, I am trying to cut back. I just love these Nutella Balls from Lola Berry's Happy Cookbook. The book is $24 from Big W and other department stores. Or, you can find the recipe on the Priceline website. It's not the cheapest recipe to make because medjool dates, hazelnuts and maple syrup are pretty expensive - but they taste so good.
Here's another elegant bun tutorial that's so easy I think even I could do it (if I had enough hair). If you're going out for a dinner date or your dad's boss is coming for dinner remember these simple tips.
1. Wait until everyone has been served before you start eating. 2. If you want something ask someone to pass it to you. Don't reach across the table. 3. Don't talk with food in your mouth. 4. Eat with your mouth closed. 5. Keep your elbows by your side, not spread out like chicken wings or resting on the table. 6. Put your phone on silent and keep it in your bag. 7. If you put your cutlery down during the meal, put it in an upside down V so the waiter knows you're not done yet. 8. Put your knife and fork side by side facing 12:00 o'clock when you have finished eating. If you have a special someone - good for you. But if you find yourself flying solo this Valentine's Day, don't fret, you're not alone (well you kind of are but there are thousands of other people feeling lonely as well). When I was a teenager one of my favourite quotes was, a woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle. Books, movies, magazines and television would have you believe that having a boyfriend makes you happy and complete but this is not Hollywood! Love is not like in the movies. Don't get me wrong, love is great, but it requires a lot of compromise and work. So, if you're by yourself this Valentine's Day, get your single girlfriends together and do something special. Paint your nails, go out for ice cream, go on a picnic, have a movie marathon...
I know that the media and popular culture have made School Formal out to be the climax of one's teenage existence, but by having such high expectations, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Just because you have the perfect date and the perfect dress does not mean that you will have the perfect night - this is not Disney! And conversely, just because you don't have the perfect date or dress does not mean that you can't have the best night of your life (so far). It's not about your date, dress, hair, makeup or who has the best limousine. It's about celebrating your high school journey and being with the friends and peers that have shared the ride.
My advice: Relax and have fun! |
