Did you know that sweat actually doesn't smell?  It's bacteria that lives on the skin which causes body odour.  Here are some tips to reduce body odour:
  • Wash with soap and warm water once a day, especially under your arms.
  • Use deodorant. If you want to be extra healthy, opt for an aluminium free one.
  • Wear clothing made of natural fibres like cotton rather than polyester.
  • Change and wash your clothes regularly.

Research has shown that spending time in wooded areas (the bush, if you're Australian) can relieve psychological and emotional stress.  Walking is also good for your physical health. Perhaps suggest a family outing to your local national park this weekend.

I love the message in this ad - healthy bodies are beautiful, regardless of what shape they are.

We all know that smoking is bad for you.  I've heard it said that sitting is the new smoking. We are finding out how unhealthy a sedentary (inactive) lifestyle is - it is one of the main contributing factors to teens being overweight and obese.  A study in NSW found that students in Year 8 spent 41 hours of their spare time engaged in sedentary activities.  This increases to 45 hours in year 10.  Add to that all the time you sit in class at school and that's a lot of physical inactivity.  You can find out more at www.healthykids.nsw.gov.au. Try to squeeze in periods of physical activity during the day such as walking or riding your bike to school, play basketball in your lunch break, find a set of stairs and walk up and down them a few times, do some exercises while you watch TV, join a sporting team...

You've probably heard this message before but Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world.  Two out of three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the time they reach 70.  So make sure you heed the advice of Sunsmart and cover up or seek shelter.  Particular care needs to be taken between 10:00am and 3:00pm when UV levels are at their highest.

Pack a water bottle, some loose change and your phone, jump on your bike and go for a ride.  For twice the fun, take a friend. Go somewhere scenic and take lots of photos. Treat yourself to an icecream on the way.

Are you determined not to end up with a food baby on Christmas Day this year?  It's easy to overeat because there is usually enough food to feed a small country on Christmas Day.  According to the experts the best way to avoid this is to:
1. Eat a healthy breakfast so that you don't rock up to Christmas lunch starving and binge.
2. Eat protein first as this fills you up more than other food - try turkey, seafood, ham (without the skin is   best).
3. Drink plenty of water - we often confuse hunger with thirst.
4. Snack on veggie sticks and fruit instead of chips and chocolates
5. Indulge - don't deprive yourself of pudding and chocolate, just enjoy it in moderation.
6. Avoid juice and soft drinks as they are full of sugar.
7. Get moving - go for a walk or a swim or join in the family cricket match.

Check out this disturbing infographic from www.iquitsugar.com. I'm not advocating we quit sugar all together, but it's hard to cut back if we don't know where it's hiding.
