The latest issue of Teen Breathe magazine has a great article on the overwhelm we can feel from exposure to the news. It's important to remember that bad news sell so it is often over-represented in the media. There are some great websites and social media accounts reporting on good news. Check out our favourites:

Your five senses can be a great way to soothe yourself when you're feeling distressed, anxious, depressed, angry, sad, or agitated. Focusing on a pleasant smell can distract you from your stressful situation and help you feel calm. Being mindful of the pleasant scents around you can help ground you even when you're not distressed.

Here are some smells that I find soothing:
My Calm Down essential oil roller from Mother Earth Aromatherapy
Coffee
Coconut body lotion
Frangipani
Roast chicken
Bath salts
Vanilla candles

What smells do you enjoy? Find a way to carry it with you for when you feel distressed.

When I was a young person I found it difficult to be positive about my body. I was a teenager in the 80s when all the supermodels and actresses were emaciated. I was so unhappy with my totally healthy body that I ended up with an eating disorder. Your body goes through a lot of changes when you are a teenager and it can be difficult to adjust to. Be kind to yourself and try these 7 body positive tips:

1. Don’t compare your body to others.
2. If you wouldn’t say it to your friends, don’t say it to yourself.
3. Learn to accept a compliment.
4. Find a supportive squad.
5. Accept that thin people aren’t happier.
6. Unfollow social media accounts that make you feel bad about yourself.
7. Practice self care.
