The summer holidays is the perfect time to sort through your wardrobe. The Sydney Morning Herald has a helpful article on how to do this - you can read it here. I like the first step:
Dump everything in your closet onto your bedroom floor. All of it. Every bra, every sock, the t-shirts, all the dresses – everything needs to come out before anything can go back in. You want your bedroom to look like you've been burgled.

In the past I have sorted my wardrobe with the clothes in it and I'm not as ruthless as I should be. I'm definitely going to try it this way next time. I have a bin pile for clothes that are worn out and a donate pile for clothes that I don't wear anymore or don't fit. When putting clothes back, I like to keep like items together such as dresses, pants, t-shirts. Good luck.

I love this YouTube tutorial by Brittany, especially because she uses natural products. Note: Distilled vinegar is the same as white vinegar.

It's footy season here in Australia at the moment.  If there weren't goal posts in footy the game would be a bit boring a pointless.  Just like in life, if you have no goals or something to aim for, you might end up wandering about with no purpose.  Goals don't have to be high and lofty, they can be simple like:
  • Achieving C grades of above at school
  • Making the school basketball team
  • Doing an hour of revision each weeknight
  • Eating less sugar
  • Going for a half hour walk each day
  • Finishing your assignment this weekend.

There are a thousand things you can do to help around the house.  Here are 20 ideas. For years your parents changed your nappies, fed you, took you to the doctor, bought you Christmas and birthday gifts, taught you how to blow your nose and tie your shoelaces, gave you their unconditional love -  it's the least you can do to thank them.
  1. Make your bed
  2. Put your dirty dishes in the dishwasher or rinse them and stack them on the sink
  3. Put your dirty washing into the laundry basket, not the floor
  4. Empty the pockets of your dirty washing
  5. Clean up the doggy doo in the yard (someone has to do it)
  6. Put a load of washing on
  7. Bring in the dry washing
  8. Iron some of your clothes
  9. Help make dinner
  10. Run the vacuum over the floor if it's looking dirty
  11. Don't leave your stuff lying around the house - put it away
  12. Empty the bin when it's full
  13. Put the bin out on bin day then bring it in when they're empty
  14. Do the dishes
  15. Empty the dishwasher
  16. Feed the pets
  17. Walk the dog
  18. Put your dirty washing in the dirty clothes hamper, not on the floor
  19. Put the empty toilet roll in the bin
  20. Run to the deli and buy some more milk when you empty the last carton

Ironing might be a bit of a drag but it's an important life skill that everyone should master.  Here are a couple of tips:
  • Set the temperature of the iron according to the fabric that you are ironing (unless you want to melt your delicate fabrics).  Check the label of your garment to be sure.
  • Spraying your clothes with water helps get the wrinkles out and is cheaper than fabulon and other ironing aids.
  • Turn clothing with prints inside out to iron. Alternatively you can use a cloth (a t-towel or handkerchief will do).
  • Hang shirts on a hanger when wet to make them easier to iron.
  • Don't iron clothing while you are wearing it - a girl at my school actually tried this and got a nasty burn.

Check out this video from Rachel Ballinger (she's a bit crazy but if anyone else can find a better how-to-iron tutorial let me know.

Basic sewing/mending skills are important unless you're so rich you can afford to throw out your clothes when the buttons fall off.  Check out this quick video on how to sew on a button.  Excuse the quirky intro.
