Girl Power: Anoyara Khatun
Anoyara is an 18 year old from a poor region in Bengal, India. She was sold to do domestic labour when she was 12 but returned to her home at age 13 and campaigned against child labour and trafficking with the Save the Children Organization. She formed 40 children's groups in her village which initiated discussion about their needs and educated them about child marriage and trafficking. In 2012 she was nominated for the Children's Peace Prize. Last year she was a child delegate at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, along with teens from other countries. Her dream is for a world free from child abuses, a world wherein children from the lower strata of society get equal opportunities of health, hygiene, education, protection from violence and exploitations as enjoyed by those belonging to higher echelons.
