Every teenage girl in the universe should watch this YouTube clip!

In 2012, Israel became the first country in the world to bring in a 'photoshop law' where advertisers must disclose if photos they use have been photoshopped.  Models with a Body Mass Index of lower than 18.5 are also banned from modelling.
Research by Marilyn Krawitz at the University of Notre Dame in Fremantle has found that seeing digitally enhanced images in the media can create negative body image issues in young people. Let's be real about the media.  You too can look like a cover girl - with a truck load of photoshopping.

Letters to your teenage self have been around for a while but there were a couple that went viral this International Women's Day. Here is mine.

Dear Teenage Amanda,

Stop worrying about what other people think. Be comfortable being you even if that means being a nerd. You are so much more than what you look like on the outside. You are clever, funny and compassionate. At the same time you should spend some time looking after the outside. Always wear sunscreen and never perm your hair.

Eat healthy! Forget about dieting and avoiding 'bad' food. All food is good in moderation. If you don't heed this bit of advice - buy shares in Mars.

Your parents are two of the most remarkable people you'll ever meet. Be grateful for the sacrifices they make and spend time with them while you can.

Forget about boys and falling in love - they're not emotionally equipped to deal with serious relationships at this age and there's plenty of time for that later. You will find Mr Right and he'll be worth waiting for.

Don't bother with trashy teen magazines they are full of dodgy advice, fashion you can't afford and trashy gossip. Choose uplifting and positive things to read, watch and listen to.

You can't choose what life throws at you but you can choose how you respond to it. Above all, keep your faith.

Don't try to grow up too fast - enjoy the journey.

Every cloud may have a silver lining but some of them have a lot of rain and hail too. Life is not all sunshine and happiness but it's what we do in life's storms that shapes us.  We can sit inside moping or put on our gumboots and sing in the rain. When you're in the middle of a downpour it sometimes feels like it's never going to end but it's helpful to remember that this too will pass. So grab your umbrella and embrace the tough times knowing that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Inspired by Kaz Cooke and her book Girl Stuff and my own life experience, here are ten things to help cheer you up when you're feeling down:
1. Laugh - with friends, at a movie or show.
2. Get outside - fresh air is good for you.
3. Write in your journal - make a list of things that you love and make you happy.
4. Explore your creative side - express yourself in words, music, drawing or cooking.
5. Spend some time with a four-legged friend - take a neighbour's dog for a walk if you don't have a pet.
6. Hang out with friends (you could combine this with hot chocolate or retail therapy).
7. Do good works - volunteer, help out a neighbour or at home.
8. Do some exercise - go for a walk or run, ride your bike or go to a fitness class.
9. Sort out your room - it's good for the soul.
10. Turn your music up real loud - sing like no one is listening and dance like no one is watching.
